The man in my painting is enjoying a painting by Robert Mangold from 1985. His Five Color Frame explores the tension between the canvas as a flat fragment and its active relationship with the empty wall behind it, questioning how separate parts "fit or don't really fit together".
By introducing a human element into this minimalist piece, I wanted to bridge the artwork's rigid, hard-edged boundaries and that of the living world.
